G. Murphy
With an emphasis in civil litigation, Greg has been practicing law with the Moulton firm for over 25 years. He is listed in the “Best Lawyers in America,” has been named by Corporate Counsel Magazine as one of the top lawyers in the country, and enjoys the highest Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating (see link below.)
Born and raised in Montana, Greg earned his B.A. from the University of Montana and his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame where he was a Thomas and Alberta White Scholar and served as an editor of the law review. After law school, Greg served as law clerk to the Honorable John F. Kilkenny of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Greg has been active in legal education and bar admissions. For many years he chaired the Montana Board of Bar Examiners and the Multistate Bar Examination Committee. He served on the board of trustees of the National Conference of Bar Examiners and also chaired the Conference. Greg continues to serve on NCBE committees (currently co-chair of the Committee on a Uniform Bar Examination) and assists in the drafting of the Multistate Performance Test. The State Bar of Montana awarded Greg its Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his leadership in bar admissions.
Greg chaired the American Bar Association's Law School
Accreditation Committee which regulates law schools in the United States.
In 1994, Greg was elected for life to the prestigious American Law Institute,
the publisher of the authoritative Restatements of the Law.
Active in community and parish affairs, Greg: played French horn in the
Billings Symphony for 23 years and served as an officer of the Billings Symphony
Society; served as a member of the St. Vincent Healthcare Ethics Committee;
is a member of the St. Vincent Healthcare Foundation board of directors; was
president of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish Council; and, has been a long-time
member of and serves as a director of the Billings Rotary Club. The Rotary
Club awarded Greg its “Service Above Self Award” for his conduct
in placing service above himself.
In addition to the French horn, Greg's hobbies include golfing, skiing, backpacking, and his sports car. Greg and his wife, Kathy, have three children: Megan, Brian, and Allison.
