Michael was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1970, and spent much of his youth traveling to Montana for alpine ski races. He graduated from Rocky Mountain College, Billings, in 1996. While at Rocky, Michael was a scholarship athlete with the Rocky Mountain College Varsity Ski Team.

After graduation, Michael worked for three years as a youth counselor with the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, located just west of Billings. He was also a volunteer soccer coach for the Magic City Soccer Club.

Michael is a graduate of the University of Montana School of Law. During law school, he was selected as a teaching assistant for first year law students. He was also a staff member and editor for the Montana Law Review. Michael graduated from law school with honors in May, 2002. Admitted to the bars of both Montana and Wyoming, Michael is is licensed to practice in all courts of both those states.

Michael is an avid fly-fisherman. His hobbies also include skiing, hunting, soccer, camping and travel. Michael's wife, Kelli, is a nurse practitioner in psychiatry. Kelli is a life-long Billings resident. Michael's current practice includes both litigation and commercial transactions.
